Experience of Sai Students at SAI ANANDAM

It was our first visit to Sai Anandam. We had heard about the efforts of our ex – students who believed in actions rather than words, who attempted to do something instead of being passive, who are examples of what Bhagwan taught us to be and what exactly the society needs.
As we walk towards the gates of Sai Anandam, we feel a resemblance to Primary School. Once inside, we are told that we have reached during the playtime of the students.
The children are excited; we can see it in their eyes. We used to get excited too when guests visited our school. Though we are not guests here, but we feel that way as we have not been able to contribute much due to staying away from Orissa.. They all file into a room; it is the room where they sleep. Soon they will be moving to a bigger room. Once they settle down, we ask them to introduce themselves. There are eight boys with bright eyes and shaved heads, which makes it difficult to remember their names. We are told that their heads had to be shaven because of the lice infestation.
The boys sing a few Bhajans and tell us their daily routine. And after talking for a while, we try to recollect their names again.

We learn that the children study in a school nearby. Although they have been admitted into the academic classes according to their ages, many of them are actually just beginning their education. There are some ex-students living nearby who spend some time with the children during their spare time helping them to study. The children and their teachers at Sai Anandam are trying their best to bridge this gap in the children’s education and I am sure, by the grace of Bhagwan their education will not be a problem. We learn that the children like to play and sing Bhajans during their spare time. We don’t want the children to miss their playtime, so we take some photos with them and let them play.

We then visit the prayer hall of Sai Anandam and this reminds us of school too. All of us say silent prayer, praying to Bhagawan to take care of the children and those caring for the children. We also see their new room and it heartening to know that these kids are being cared for in every possible way, be it their shelter, their food, their health or their education. There are no stones left unturned.

And it is time to take leave and let the children play. As we make our way back to Bhubaneswar, we realize how important it is to contribute time and effort towards the children at Sai Anandam. We realize that Bhagawan has given us a great opportunity to relive our Parthi days and offer our gratitude to Him.
